You may have challenges doing it, when you think of their age. Here are what you need to do to keep them socially active.
Help them to start exercising. They shall find the process to have so many mental and physical benefits for them to enjoy. It has the effect of adding to their energy and happiness. This also proofs their bodies against injuries. They also get a chance to add to their friends list. Fitness classes serve all these purposes for them effectively. Socialization is guaranteed in the process.
They should also spend time outside. You will see them make new friends, by joining local walking groups, tennis clubs, and such. The fresh air and sunshine shall add to the benefits of exercising, thus making them much healthier and happier.
They can also offer mentorship services. They have lived long enough to have gathered quite a lot of wisdom. All they need is a listening audience. If they meet a younger generation, it shall benefit both parties. Look for chances where they can mentor. An example is working with children as part of a foster grandparent program. There could also be opening in the local community college where they shall prove instrumental especially if they get to teach something they are good at.
You should also visit the local senior centers with them. This is how they get to learn more about what activities they can engage in there. There will be plenty of chances for them to socialize, exercise, and learn new things. They shall not miss something fun and engaging for them to get involved in.
They may eventually have to relocate. This will be spurred on by their environment. If they try and find a senior center and one is not locally available, or if they do not see anywhere they can socialize with other seniors, then it shall be time to look in other places. When they finally identify a retirement community where they feel happy and are comfortable, the decision to stay there should be supported by all of you. They will get all the care and support necessary for their comfortable living.
